Moving Galaxies

You know there are many galaxies in the Universe. Scientists believe that they are moving away from one another. Let's see how it is possible.

Take a balloon and half inflate it. Draw dots on it in shape of spiral galaxy. Now blow air into the balloon in front of a mirror. You find the galaxy expanding apart, this is what happens in the sky.

Making A Telescope

For constructing a simple telescope you need two lenses with focal lengths of about 35 cms (object glass) and 10 cms (eye piece). Hold the eyepiece to eye and the object glass some distance apart. Looking at a distant object, move the object glass so as to form a sharp image. The distance between the two lenses corresponds to the length of telescope. Take a sheet of black card and fold it in a tube wide enough to mount the lens. Tape the tube and glue the object lens at the inside end of tube. Now roll another tube about 6 cm short and wide enough to slide inside the first one. Paste the eye piece lens on the outer end of tube and insert it inside the other tube. Glance it a distant object with telescope moving the tubes till a sharp image is seen.
