This tense is used to speak about the action which took place in the past for some time.

Subject + was / were + verb + ing

I / he / she / it / all singular subjects + was + verb + ing

We / you / they / all plural subjects + were + verb + ing



Examples :

It was raining throughout the night.

I was reading a story for a long time yesterday.

I was working on my computer the whole day yesterday.

My teacher was teaching me Math for three hours last week.

We were waiting for you for one hour.
