Tautological (TAWT uh LOG I kull) adj: redundant, circular

A tautology is a needless repetition of words or saying the same thing using different words.

For examples:

The trouble with bachelors is that they aren't married.

When everyone has a camera, cameras will be universal is a tautological statement, because everyone having a camera and cameras being universal mean the same thing.

The testing company's definition of intelligence that which is measured by intelligence tests is tautological.




Temerity (tuh MER I tee) n: boldness, recklessness, audacity

Our waiter at the restaurant had the temerity to tell me that he thought that my table manners were atrocious.

The mountain climber had more temerity than skill or sense.

He tried to climb a mountain that was much too difficult and ended up in a heap at the bottom.
