What is the difference between Spit and Spite? :


Spit : (verb)

( 1 ) Send out from the mouth

He was spitting blood after being hit in the mouth.

The child took one sip of the tea and spit it out.


( 2 ) Send saliva from the mouth

He is inclined to spit when he talks quickly.


( 3 ) Send saliva from the mouth as a sign of anger or contempt

She spat on his face.


( 4 ) Utter something violently or forcefully

She spat curses at him.


( 5 ) Make a noise like spitting to show anger

He walked off spitting with fury.


( 6 ) Rain lightly

It is not raining heavily any more. But it is still spitting a bit.



Spite : (noun)

( 1 ) Desire to hurt, annoy or offend another person

Ill will

He said it out of spite.



Spite : (verb)

( 1 ) Annoy, offend or injure someone because of spite

He plays his radio loudly every evening just to spite us.

Do not do anything to spite your neighbors.
