Prefixes :


Prefix is placed before a root word to make a new word.


Example :


Inter + national = international


In this, the prefix is INTER whereas the word is NATIONAL. The new word is INTERNATIONAL.


Important Prefixes :


En……: enabled, encounter


In….: infertile, inappropriate, impossible


Un…: unacceptable, unreal, unhappy, unmanned


Be….: bejeweled


Co……: coauthored


Bi……: bisector


Mis……..: misused


Dis……..: disqualified


Inter……….: interact, interchange, international


Im……: impossible, imbibe


Re……..: recount, repaint, reappraise, reawaken


Em…..: embitter


Il…..: illegal, illimitable


Suffixes :


Suffix is placed after a root word to make a new word.


Example :


Class + mate = classmate


In this example, the suffix is MATE whereas the root word is CLASS and the new word is CLASSMATE.
