Dial : verb : to call a telephone number on a telephone

• To dial direct = to contact a phone number without asking the operator to do it for you

• You can dial New York direct from London.

NOTE :

GB spelling is dialing – dialed.

But US spelling is dialing – dialed.


Dialing : noun : act of calling a telephone number


Dialing Code = special series of numbers which you use to make a call to another town or country


Dialing Tone = noise made by a telephone to show that it is ready for you to dial a number


International Direct Dialing = calling telephone numbers in other countries direct
