TO BE may be used as an Auxiliary verb to help to form all the Continuous Tenses in the Active Voice and all the tenses and Passive Voice of other verbs.

  1. He is sitting near you.

  2. The book was found under the table.

  3. He is busy.

  4. They are carrying him.

  5. She is to be married next month.



TO BE may be used as a Principal Verb of Complete prediction in the meaning of to exist, to live, to arrive, to stay, to be found, to visit etc.

  1. The world is. (exists)

  2. There are many people in the world who speak English. (are to be found)

  3. I have been in this country before. (have stayed)

  4. We were there in time. (arrived)

  5. He has been to London twice. (has visited)
