What is the difference between Slat and Slate? :


Slat : (noun)

( 1 ) Long thin narrow piece of wood, metal, or plastic



Slate : (noun)

( 1 ) Type of blue-grey rock that splits easily into thin flat layers

Slate is often used for covering roofs.


( 2 ) Small sheet of slate in a wooden frame used by school-children for writing on

In rural areas, slate is still used in schools.



Slate : (verb)

( 1 ) Propose someone (for an office, appointment, etc…)

He is slated for the Presidency.


( 2 ) Plan that something will happen at a specified time

The meeting slated to take place on coming Friday.

I shall attend the meeting slated for Tuesday.


( 3 ) Criticize something / someone severely

They slated the film.

The proposal got slated by the committee.
