Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Nothing in the world is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not. Unrewarded genius is a proverb. Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
It is not such a fierce something to lead once you see your leadership as part of God's overall plan for his world.
A true leader always keeps an element of surprise up his sleeve which others cannot grasp but which keeps his public excited and breathless.
(Charles de Gaulle)
The Master said, "Guide them by edicts. Keep them in line with punishments and the common people will stay out of trouble but will have no sense of shame. Guide them by virtue. Keep them in line with the rites and they will besides having a sense of shame reform themselves."
You have achieved excellence as a leader when people will follow you everywhere if only out of curiosity.
(General Colin Powell)
Control is not leadership. Management is not leadership. Leadership is leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in leading yourself -- your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation, conduct. Invest at least 20% leading those with authority over you and 15% leading your peers.
What we should be looking for is fresh ideas of how we make moral decisions about our dealings with one another, economic, social, cultural. Economic determinism is an objectionable creed where men and women espouse it in its communist or capitalist form because it treats human beings as economic units and not as responsible persons.
(Dr. Davis McCaughey)
In our system leadership is by consent, not command. To lead, a President must persuade. Personal contacts and experiences help shape his thinking. They can be critical to his persuasiveness and thus to his leadership.
